Kabinett #2: André Gonçalves

12.01.2008

0047 and Kabinett proudly present Resonant Objects, a performance by André Gonçalves.

André Gonçalves ‘Resonant Objects’ is an ongoing series of works focused on creating micro-environments, computer controlled hermetic spaces. Bringing together sound and space through sympathetic vibrations, sound is used as a medium to excite space in order to render audible its natural resonances – sound multiplying in and by space.

For this installation André is adapting his ‘Resonant Objects’ to play a two hours long piece according to a site-specific musical score, this score is triggered by a computer and played according to motion inputs sensed by motion sensors located in the space.

André Gonçalves (1979): Since the late 1990s, Portuguese artist, André Gonçalves has been working in several fields such as music, video, installation and performance. Recent projects have included intermedia interactive installations such ‘Resonant Objects’, ‘I Thought Some Daisies Might Cheer You Up’ and ‘You Got Me Floatin'. André has exhibited his work across the US, Europe and South America and was the 2004 receipt of the prestigious 'Ernesto de Sousa Fellowship' for experimental intermedia art. His discography includes releases on the labels Sirr, Crónica Electrónica and Grain of Sound (PT), Winds Measure (US), Transacoustic Research (AT) and Cherry Music (JP).
